What are my options?

As with all products manufactured by Statewide, we offer a wide range of variations to ensure that the locker reflects your needs, and not the needs of the production line.

• The Locks: The internal locks can be key, dial combination or digital combination. You can even have non-locking handles (pictured below). The external lock can be key, padlock, digital or even RFID smart card.
• The Colours: As with all our lockers, we can do this in any on-range powder coat from Dulux or Interpon, with many colours in our standard range. We can even do multi colour units. Check out our colour options.

Our lockers can be further augmented with prime coats for corrosion protection, or our licensed Biocote antimicrobial powder coat for facilities where hygiene is paramount.

The storage of scuba diving gear offers several difficulties that need to be overcome. Some of these difficulties include the heightened risk of corrosion, the weight of the diving vests/other underwater gear, and the speed at which wet gear will dry inside a cupboard. Keeping these challenges in mind, our designers and production team came together to work out two new, Australian made scuba gear storage cupboards that could handle the workload.

Making the Necessary Changes to Create Scuba Gear Storage Cupboards

Being that we needed additional strength, corrosion resistance, and size we made the following product changes:

• Increased airflow
• MetaPrep Primer Coat to encapsulate the steel
• Stainless steel accessories
• Bigger size – 1800H x 900W x 700D
• Reinforced shelving

Increasing Airflow = Less Moisture In The Cupboard

Normally, ventilation is limited to the doors or rear of the cupboard. For the scuba gear storage cupboard, we opted for top ventilation to allow evaporating moisture to rise uninhibited. Less moisture = less time for rust to take hold.

MetaPrep Primer Stops Rust Before it Begins

MetaPrep Primer from Interpon is designed to reduce the occurrence and severity of corrosion. Unlike standard powder coats, MetaPrep Primer adheres to both the steel and the adjacent paint molecules. This pre-coat fully encapsulates the steel keeping out harmful moisture and oxygen. Metaprep can be used in conjunction with any colour.

Stainless Steel Hanging Rail: Strength, Durability and Style

Using a stainless steel hanging rail satisfied two requirements. It is strong enough to bear the weight of diving suits whilst simultaneously being immune to rust.

Bigger than Normal Cupboards, Fits Dive Suits Easily

To accommodate the scuba gear, we increased the depth of our cupboards from 450mmD to a whopping 700mmD. This allows for the easy hanging of wet suits and dive suits.

Reinforced Shelves: No Flex

There were two types of scuba gear storage cupboards requested. One for hanging dive suits, and one for scuba gear. We reinforced the shelving with welded stiffeners, and installed them on welded shelf brackets. These shelves aren’t going anywhere!

The book locker was made using our standard half height lockers combined with a custom height locker stand. The half height lockers are available in single, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 tier options however the customer opted for 3 tier in this case. The stand had a shelf added, which could be used for shoes or book bags. The body of the lockers and stand are fully welded.

Prior to making the unit, we thought that we would need to weld a support leg in the centre to stop the shelf from bending. However, our production manager installed an angle iron frame for the shelf making it next to impossible for the shelf to flex out of shape.

As you can see from the picture, the customer requested latch locks and a hexagonal pattern for door ventilation which we were more than happy to do. We have a lot of different tooling shapes available for any of our locker doors, including various sized squares and circles, or even line cutouts.

It goes without saying that this was made right here in our Sydney factory.

Without further ado, the first product of the month is…

The Mixed Storage Locker Bank in White Birch

Mixed storage – locker doors and open shelving

Styled on a vintage piece of re-purposed furniture, this storage cupboard offers a mix of lockable compartments based on a four-door locker door and open faced compartments. The important features requested from the client were the louvered doors and the evenly spaced shelves in the upper compartments.

The original unit we were recreating

Rather than try to create an entirely new cupboard and run up the cost in custom programming, we were able to robot- weld a bank of three lockers together prior to putting it through the powder coat oven. The back of the locker was modified to include evenly spaced notches, so the shelves would be at the correct heights. We had to do this as the addition of the larger door on the base made the extra shelves out of alignment if we left it as standard. Finally, the three lockable compartments at the based of the unit were keyed alike as it wasn’t necessary for the user to have three different sets of keys. All in all it was great product to work on and resulted in a very happy customer. Well done to the Rockdale Office Furniture team for working with their client on this one!
